Do you find yourself working hard day by day, but still
find yourself scraping through at the end of the month?
Are you living paycheck to paycheck or wondering where all
your hard earned money goes? If you answered 'yes' to any
of these questions, then you may need to readjust your
spending habits. If you have yet to do so, set up a
monthly budget.
All you have to do is write your monthly income after
deducting taxes and all fees on one side, and write your
regular expenses including your rent or mortgage, car
payment, student loans, credit card bills, or any other debt
you may have on the other. When the expenses are deducted
from the income, the resulting amount needs to be delegated
to utilities, including gas, electric, water, sewer, garbage,
phone, wireless phone, cable, internet, and any other monthly
fees you have to pay. Also take into account home, renters,
or car insurance. Do not forget food and general living
items. If you find your bills are more than your resources,
you need to rethink about your spending.
As far as utilities go, you can cut down your expenses in
many ways. For instance, when a cell phone can serve the
purpose why have a landline as well? Similarly, cut down
your gas, electric, or water bills by running energy-sapping
items, like air conditioners, dryers, or furnaces in limited
doses, and use other methods to cool or heat your house. If
there is a leak in the faucet, get it fixed immediately
before it causes your water bill to skyrocket. When it comes
to cable, satellite dish, or Internet, cut down to the bare
basics. Check around with competing service providers to see
which company has the best deal. Also, avoid adding costly
premium services, like HBO, Showtime, or Starz.
If you still have plenty of money to go around after bills
have been paid, but find yourself in tight spots, then
carefully look at your spending. Use sales papers and
coupons when food shopping. Avoid buying big ticket items
like expensive meats. Also, try cooking with fresh
ingredients as opposed to buying canned, boxed, or frozen
food. Eating out can also put a dent in your budget, so
consider packing a lunch or limiting meals out to once a
month. Examine your spending on entertainment like movies,
shows, and concerts.
Try seeing a matinee to save some cash or consider joining a
movie rental club for the same price as one movie ticket.
These clubs are great deals, allowing individuals to rent
unlimited movies for one low monthly payment. This is also
a great substitution for premium cable channels. Whatever
your spending habits, curbing overspending now will ensure
you have money when it counts!
