Carpet Cleaning Hints From The Experts

When it comes to household carpet cleaning you can learn a
thing or two from those guys who do it for a living -
professional cleaning companies and janitors. Of course
they deal with bigger areas that receive much more intense
use, and it is their full time job, but they have skills
and knowledge that can be easily transferred to the home
setting.
In fact it begins before the cleaning, when we start to
think about keeping down the amount of cleaning. No doubt
you have noticed that in schools, factories and offices any
carpeted area will have a removable rug at the entrance.
The purpose of this is obvious - the dirt accumulates on
this rug. It is usually more hard wearing than the carpet,
can be easily removed for serious cleaning and drying, and
it is cheaper to replace than the carpet. Just keep an eye
out and check out the state of any carpet in a high use
area that hasn't been protected by a rug - what a mess!
Now your home is unlikely to have the traffic of an office
or a school (thousands of pairs of feet an hour at busy
times), but the lesson still applies - you could have kids
with their dirty shoes or whatever. Combined with a "no
outdoor shoes in the house" rule, the rug can make the
carpet cleaning a whole lot easier.
Vacuuming will still be necessary as it is virtually
impossible to combat particles and dust from drifting onto
carpets. In the work context, vacuuming every day will be
necessary in most parts - whilst at home many parts will
need vacuuming at most twice a week. But here the
professionals can again teach us something. They divide
areas up according to low or high traffic. If you consider
it for a moment, people walking through your home are
likely to use the same areas of the carpet. For example,
they will pass directly through the hall in a unwavering
line. As a result the center hallway is an hub of activity
and will likely need to be vacuumed every couple of days.
The machine will need to be run over these areas of heavy
use about 5 or 6 times. Areas with less use on the other
hand will need about 2 or 3 passes every few days.
Cleaning experts are also aware of how important it is to
deal with spillages when they happen. Dealing straight
away with something that has been spilled means that the
damage to the carpet may not show. The idea is to have at
your disposal a general cleaner for spillages. Find out
how to use it when you buy it rather than waiting for a
spillage to occur when you will be in panic mode. Experts
advise users of these cleaners to avoid breathing in the
chemicals they contain - this is helped if you understand
beforehand how they should be used and how much is
necessary to do the job.
At times it will be necessary to give your carpet a deeper
clean. For this, machines that shampoo carpets can be
bought or hired and these function well. Following the
guidelines of the manufacturer will bring you better
results - putting more cleaning fluid in the machine in the
belief that it will work better will not help. By taking
account on some of the tips above you will make your
carpets last longer and you home will look great.
