Getting The Best From Your Bath
by Daniel Wrange

Once in a while a lovely, long, relaxing bath is just what
the doctor ordered. Your cares float away on the bubbles,
the tension in your tired muscles just seems to evaporate.
So why is it that so often we cannot get what we need from
our bath? There is a range of problems to consider, from
the free fixes right through to the complete bathroom
overhaul.

Those things that we can do for nothing are all about
getting the bath setup right. First of all make sure that
you are not going to be disturbed - even the worry about
being disturbed can spoil the mood. So turn the phone
off, if that kind of thing disturbs you. A second
potential problem is running out of hot water. This can
happen in household with a tank and several members, so if
this describes your situation plan your bath so the hot
water is abundant.

Next up is the bath and bathroom - they should be spick and
span. It is not nice to slide into a bath only to feel a
layer of grime! Even if you clean the bath daily, another
family member might have sneaked in before you and made the
place filthy. If you can enforce it, there should be a
"clean up after your bath" rule for all family members! It
is also worth investing some time in a regular deep clean
if you really want to relax at bath time. For a few
dollars you can buy specific products that clean the grout
between the tiles and polish up the taps.

Lavender scents in oils or candles along with the nice
light given off by the candle flame combine to help get the
mood right. Bath creams and salts also come with relaxing
fragrances. If you want some mood music then take care
with your electrical connections. The best bet is a cd
player or radio that is waterproof and made for the
bathroom. Alternatively you could go with a battery powered
unit, which is safer than mains.

These things above are easy to achieve and make taking a
bath more indulgent. But it could be that the bathroom
itself is the problem. Perhaps changing the bathroom has
been a job you have been meaning to do for years and
something you have not got around to doing or not had the
extra cash to do. Some things can really make a difference
to a shabby looking bathroom such as buying new faucets.
Fixing these is a simple job and by shopping around and
looking at offers on the Internet you can get good
contemporary units for a great price. At the end of the
day if you are going to change the bathroom you have still
got the new faucets so you will not need to change them
again.

If there is no option but to go for an all new bath suite
then you will find the range of bath tubs close to
overwhelming; corner baths, sunken units, freestanding or
just the traditional modern style. And then there is the
latest big stir is home bathrooms is the whirlpool unit.
These are great big things that swoosh the water in
relaxing jets. A thing to watch for is the increased hot
water demands that these units will make over a standard
bath. There are various solutions, so talk the potential
problem through with a plumber or the salesman. Whatever
route you decide to take, you are guaranteed a better bath!
