All About Tents

Tents were one of the first symbols or Arabia because they
used tents as a royal structure set up for ceremonial
occasions and trips. Then tent was then adopted by the
Europeans for the same use and was later developed into a
kind of roof used to cover the front of large buildings
such as railway stations, botanical gardens and of course
camping.

Circuses used large tents to cover everything that went on
under the "Big Top" and used to bring excitement and joy to
anyone who witnessed this structure because they knew a fun
time could be had when going to the circus. It was a useful
structure and kept everything and everyone under the Big
Top safe and dry from the outside elements. Smaller tents
also provide their occupants refuge from dust and insects
and once inside and the front is all zipped up, the inside
of the tent can be very cozy for the two inside.
Most of the tents used in the U. S. today are personal
tents used for camping and hiking. They are usually light
weight and very mobile. These tents are designed to protect
their occupants from the outside elements such as wind,
rain and even the heat of the sun when outdoors. Tents also
provide privacy for their occupants and allow the privacy
once the front of the tent is all zipped up, that some may
want when needing to spend some "quality time" together.

The most sought after kind of tent is domed shaped and is
supported by fiberglass poles that are secured into the
ground for stability. The dome shape of a tent offers more
room on the inside, as well as ample head room for those on
the tall side and stand up a little better in stronger
winds and rain. Some are freestanding tents that don't
require stakes to hold them up and are easily taken down
and carried to another campsite.

Other styles of tents are tunnel tents which have a liner
design with a rectangular floor plan, they also use fewer
poles which makes them less trouble to pack up and use less
space when put in storage. Others kinds of tents are frame
or cabin tents which come in large sizes and are usually
used as base camps or in campgrounds.

Tents come in seasons like the outdoors they are use for
protection and are called three-season or four season
tents. Three season tents are better suited for spring,
summer or fall times of the year and are lightweight and
easier to carry from one place to another. Four season
tents are made from sturdier materials and are better used
during the fall and winter months of outdoor use because
they stand up better during rain or snow storms.

When choosing a tent, pick one able to withstand the
harshest conditions you might encounter. Also take into
account how much weight you are willing to carry. Four-
season tents are roughly 10 to 20 percent heavier than
three-season models, so if you do not anticipate camping in
late fall or winter, it might be best to choose a three-
season model. Another aspect to take into account is
capacity rating. A tent deemed a two-person by a
manufacturer might be a tight squeeze for two large adults
and their gear. In this case it would probably be best to
choose a three-man tent to provide better room.
