History is a record of the past with historians
using documents, artifacts, and works of art
to interpret past events. As a subject, history
can be researched and studied as an important
scholarly area of understanding events that
have happened in earlier years. Historians
are scholars or novice enthusiasts that research
and record events from the past as correctly
as they know. Their works enable future
generations to study and acquire knowledge
those past events.
Another way of presenting history is through
studying one's family lineage or the creation
of documents that form a family tree. This gives
people a real connection to past history of family.
To acquire knowledge one's past family
history, would be to research public records found
in the register of deed offices. These are the
best records. Records of military service and
the census bureau are also reliable sources.
Newspaper articles recorded past historical
events can be an excellent source. Unwritten
history may also be obtained by oral interviews
with family members who lived during past
years. Studying stories the lives of people
from the past can be major sources of information.
Historical events are recorded in various forms. Books,
articles, and essays have been written to reflect our past.
Documentaries have been filmed to preserve our history. The
movie industry has combined facts with fiction to make the
story more sensational and interesting to watch.
In order for events to be recorded into history, they must
be considered a remarkable event, finding or fact. An
example would be the speeches of the American Presidents
and the events that surrounded them that has affected our
lives today. Documentaries have been recorded through
visual and audio resources so that we may see and hear the
Presidents of the United States.
Some of the most researched and analyzed events of
the past have concerned wars. By understanding the
actual happening of the war, historians are able to
interpret how lives were influenced whether directly or
indirectly, and also be able to connect past and
present wars.
The definition of war must include major differences
between nations or ideological groups that can not be
solved through diplomacy, but end up as conflicts on
the battlefield for long or short periods of time. The
history of the United States has evolved around wars
to acquire some of the basic rights and privileges we
enjoy today as a free and sovereign nation. The
devastation of war may be seen in the physical,
financial, and emotional destruction in he lives of the
people involved. Often times, many power shifts
result from the outcome of a war.
The War between the States has been one of the most
intensely studied wars because it involved Americans
fighting Americans. Each war has influenced the
development of the United States. Some of the major
wars, most of which occurred in the 20th century, were
World War I and II, the Korean, and the Vietnam War.
The most important was the American Revolution
which allowed us to gain our independence.
